What is Report Miner?

Report Miner is compatible with versions 3.0 - 11.5 of Crystal Reports, and is available for evaluation through our demo copy here.

Using Report Miner to Identify Report Changes
One of the most difficult tasks for Crystal Reports users is identifying the changes that have been made to a Crystal Report. One report works, and one does not… but how do you determine what is different or what has been changed between the two reports?

There are two methods: the first involves opening up both files in Crystal Reports and manually comparing the two reports. The other more efficient method is to compare the reports using Report Miner Suite's RptDiff! RptDiff will compare two versions of the same report, or two different reports and identify all differences in an easy-to-read format. Our team used to spend hours identifying changes made to reports or confirming that changes were made as instructed; with Report Miner, this can be done in minutes. This tool alone justifies the purchase on Report Miner with one use, whether you are a project manager, a QA team member, a user, or a developer.

Using Report Miner to Create Report Documentation for Users

Once a Crystal Report has been developed, it is very difficult to determine whether the report was created in accordance with customer specifications. For example, ensuring that the group conditions, database links, formula fields, etc are all being used correctly can be very tedious to double check, and is prone to human error.

Using Report Miner Suite's Extract, users can auto-generate detailed report definition documentation for Crystal Reports. This allows users to quickly see all details of the report, including database tables referenced, fields used, group conditions, formula fields, report layout screenshot, etc. This makes it very simple for users to validate that the Crystal Reports are correct.

The documentation generated by Extract can be configured to include as little or as much detail as desired, and can be generated in Microsoft Word or simple text file format. Extract even supports using Word templates for the generated Word documents, which allows users to create the documents according to existing documentation standards. Extract will even create a Microsoft Access database which can be used for cross-report analysis.
